Area Solar Projects to Receive State Funding
State Rep. Duane Milne announced today that two major solar projects have been selected to receive state funding through the Alternative Energy Investment Fund approved in 2008.
The School at Church Farm in West Whiteland will receive $1.19 million from the PA Department of Environmental Protection to install a ground and roof mounted solar array that will provide an on-site source of renewable energy and reduce grid congestion. Educationally, the system will provide students, faculty, and staff with valuable exposure to best practices in sustainability.
Another grant, in the amount of $2.6 million, was awarded to Frazer/Exton Development for its planned Makamie at Whiteland’s senior housing community. The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) grant will help to install a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system to be built on a 7-acre Superfund site.
“It is my privilege to assist important initiatives such as these here in Chester County and help spread the word across the Commonwealth of the importance of utilizing alternative sources of energy,” Milne said. “I commend both the School at Church Farm and Frazer/Exton Development for their laudable interest in conserving energy, preserving the environment and, between the two, meeting the needs of both our area’s youth and the aging.”
