A controversial budget proposal which would cut all funding for higher education has been approved by the House Appropriations committee, but House Republicans claim that the plan would unfairly place the state’s college students in the line of fire. Legislation to re-establish state funding for hazardous sites cleanup was unveiled Thursday by Rep. Duane Milne of Chester County. During a press conference held at the Bishop Tube plant, a former industrial site in Chester County, Rep. Milne outlined his bill and how it would help Pennsylvania communities deal with contaminated properties. Milne’s bill would solve a funding shortfall created during last summer’s budget debate and provide a permanent funding stream for the hazardous site cleanup program in future years.
